New Rail Connection to Luton Airport

New Rail Connection to Luton Airport

Rail Safety & Systems Assurance has been appointed as the ‘Independent Competent Person’ tasked with ensuring that London Luton Airport’s (LLA’s) new fast transit system is designed, built and operated to comply with UK safety regulations and international good practice.

The driverless and 24-hour capable system will make the 2.1 km journey from Luton Airport Parkway station to the London Luton Airport terminal in under five minutes, enabling seamless journey times from St Pancras International of just 30 minutes.

Luton Borough Council and its wholly-owned company London Luton Airport Ltd (LLAL) are investing £200m in the scheme, scheduled to open in 2021, as part of their commitment to supporting the airport to achieve its ambitious growth target and increasing the number of passengers travelling there by rail.
